Useful Links for our Gardeners
We have been in existence for over 50 years, and our annual membership has been fairly stable at 40 to 50 garden-lovers for most of that time. We are located in the historic village of Boalsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania, but we are pleased to collect members from the surrounding area. As stated in Article III of our By-Laws :

Master Gardeners
The object of this organization shall be to stimulate and further interest in flowers, trees, shrubs, and the environment.
We might add to this definition by saying that having some good sociable fun is an important part of the setup. Indeed, the Club is very informal. We have a program of meetings -- usually in a local Church hall at around 6.30-8.00 pm, on the first Friday of the month -- with refreshments and interesting invited speakers, for eight months of the year.
In between these indoor meetings, we have some field trips, organize a large Memorial Day plant sale and feature in the Fire Parade. We provide birthday parties -- usually at a State Colllege Waffle Shop -- for those members who have reached the magical age of 80 years, and we always have a rolicking good time at our Christmas meeting where we provide our own entertainment and do no business at all.

The BGC calendar (2010-2011) and (2011-2012)
The Club year runs from November through October,
often with a break in July and another one in January (so we can recover from the holidays.) The 2011-12 calendar is hot off the presses, so just click the link below to see what is in store for our new year.
The program is published in a Club Handbook, a personal copy is provided to all paid members, and we publish the details here too.

Supporting the Colmbus Day Tradition on the 'Diamond' in Boalsburg, 2011
A Boalsburg Tradition
The Club was started over 50 years ago as an outgrowth of a prior social club whose main ambition was to provide community spirit for the inhabitants of Boalsburg. Although our focus is now primarily on gardening subjects, we do try to maintain that ambition for community involvement.
We are fortunate that the public are so enthusiastic for our Memorial Day Plant Sale. The proceeds from this enable us to make significant donations to a selection of local charities -- usually in November -- which are always appreciated.
We are longtime supporters of the Boalsburg Heritage Museum, to the best of our ability, and if you enjoy the festive dressings for the holiday season, they were usually provided and put up by members of the Boalsburg Garden Club.
From time to time we make significant financial donations to currently worthy projects in the village. For example we were able to help recently with the cost of the replacement storage barn for the Boalsburg Heritage Museum.
We also make
a regular apearance
in the Memorial weekend Fire Parade through Boalsburg village.

Our Photos
WE ALL LOVE TO SHARE OUR GARDENING SUCCESSES !

Flower
Often, we like to share the fruits of our labor because a fellow member gave us a starter a for our own garden.
The Club provides a great opportunity for people to "experiment" with new or exotic plants, then report back on how well they did.
British and Foreign
Although we are not a photography club, it is always appreciated when members submit their most interesting photographs of plants and flowers which they have grown in their own garden or house, so we can all share them.
Native American
Flower Photographs
Every two years we put together a DVD of around one hundred submitted photographs for a Club show-&-tell.

The Club is also building up an ongoing collection of photographs illustrating highlights of our trips to places of garden interest, special activities at Club meetings, and of course our Birthday Parties (were we fete and celebrate with those special members who have turned 80 years old).

Thinking of joining?
An annual subscription of $15.00 is due in October. There is no regular
per meeting
fee, and guests and visitors are welcome any time. We do ask for a small contribution toward materials if it is a workshop where you get to take your product home.
We welcome all persons interested in sociable gardening, young, old, working, retired.
Please use the "Club Secretary" link on the [Contact us] page to indicate your interest, and we can answer your questions about our next meeting, and put you on our e-mail list. We usually recommend that visitors should attend one or more meetings before joining, just to meet other members and see what goes on.
What you get
Well, you get the handbook, all the fascinating "first Friday" programs (usually 8 per year) and the other field visits we can arrange, all in an atmosphere of growing friendship and collaboration.
You get the chance to swap brilliant gardening ideas with friends, and participate in the August "Members' Auction" BBQ, when we all contribute various interesting plants and knick-knacks, and sell them to each other to add a few more funds to the Club account.
The Club makes a subsidy towards the cost of a "bring your own delights" Christmas Party (partners most welcome) , and toward the cost of a "Spring Breakfast" meeting (Members only). Regular Club meetings have typically two hosts/hostesses who provide the snacks after the program, and these are supported by Club funds.
The opportunity to volunteer for various committees -- for example the Program Committee -- so you can help determine the year's activities.
